Soulmusic Records is proud to present the worldwide CD debut of two classic albums by popular U.S. funk band MASS PRODUCTION: – 1979’s “In The Purest Form” and 1980’s “Massterpiece”, both written and produced by the self-contained band.
The 10-piece group (Tyrone Williams, Ricardo Williams, LeCoy Bryant, Agnes Kelly, James Drumgole, Larry Marshall, Kevin Douglas, Gregory McCoy, Emmanuel Redding And Rodney Phelps) initially formed in Norfolk, Virginia, signed to Atlantic’s Cotillion imprint in 1976 and enjoyed initial R&B success via their first three albums.
With the release of ‘Firecracker’ (sampled by 2 Live Crew in 1989 on their global hit, ‘Me So Horny’) – the key cut on “In The Purest Form” – Mass Production achieved their first U.S. R&B top 5 single while the LP became their best-selling set, spurred on by the groove classic ‘Can’t You See I’m Fired Up.’
